"Glorious One"

Confession of Sin
Leader:  For the times we forget that we need a Savior, and arrogantly think that we can be good enough to save ourselves
ALL:  Lord Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner.
Leader:  For the times when we trust sinful attachments in the world more that the Fathers love
ALL:  Lord Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner.
Leader:  For the times when we allow our own opinions to dominate the truth of the Fathers love revealed to us in His Word
ALL:  Lord Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner.
Leader:  For the times when we fail to use the things the Father has given us to build up and expand His Kingdom
ALL:  Lord Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner.
Leader,  For the times we fail to love our neighbor as ourselves and to love God with our heart, soul, strength and mind
ALL:  Lord Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner.
Leader:  For the times when we try to justify our sinfulness
ALL:  Lord Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner.

Assurance Of Forgiveness
Leader:  Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins.  As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen

First Reading
Matthew 17:1-9
1  After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2  There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3  Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus. 4  Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters--one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah." 5  While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!" 6  When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. 7  But Jesus came and touched them. "Get up," he said. "Don't be afraid." 8  When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus. 9  As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, "Don't tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead."

Sermon Scripture Reading
2 Peter 1:16-21
16  We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17  For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." 18  We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.19  And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20  Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. 21  For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

In Whom Do We Believe? Explanation the Third Article of The Apostles Creed
I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to him; but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with his gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith.  In the same way he calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith.  In this Christian church he daily and richly forgives all my sins and the sins of all believers.  On the Last Day, he will raise me and all the dead, and give eternal life to me and all believers in Christ.  This is most certainly true.

Prayers Of The Day

The Lord's Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.  Amen.
